The Scheme for Voluntary Certification of Yoga Professionals “mentored” by the ministry of Ayush and owned by Quality Council of India (QCI), is a voluntary certification scheme for yoga teachers and institutions, launched by the government to keep an eye on the booming business of wellness.
Yoga is long known to have positive impact on the health and well-being of those who practice them regularly. Many life style and other diseases can be well managed by the regular practice of Yoga. Yoga has been practiced and taught in different parts of the world for many many years.
The AYUSH ministry has long considered coming up with a certification process for professionals in India and abroad. In order to take leadership in yoga, which is an Indian product, QCI has devised a system that will be accepted across the world.
The Ministry has also decided to certify institutes imparting training in the ancient discipline for physical and mental well-being to ensure quality control and check mushrooming of centres which do not meet even the basic standards. The aim is to discourage fly-by-night operators who set up schools to cash in on the popularity of yoga, which has been on an upswing recently.
The scheme provides a mechanism to ensure the credibility and authenticity of the services provided, whether it be by individuals as Yoga Instructors, or the service is offered by an Institution.
The intention is to homogenise the whole chain through which professionals and institutes are accredited so that there is a uniformity in the entire yoga curriculum. Eventually yoga centres, including those abroad, will get certified by QCI and AYUSH Ministry.
a1000yoga Academy, owned by Hata Yoga Abhyaasa and Prachaara Trust has been one of the first few schools to volunteer for this rigorous scheme of certification to be established as an authentic and long standing yoga training academies. We have been the third yoga learning institute in the world to be certified by QCI. Since February 2017, we continue to conduct Yoga Teacher Certification Courses that are both RYT200/RYT300 compliant and Level1/Level2 Ministry of AYUSH compliant.
