For Yoga practice to be effective it needs to be

    1. 4. In a pre-set, stepwise (Vinyasa) and Repetitive manner

There are only a handful of yoga styles that follows the above aspects strictly.

    Ashtanga Yoga or Ashtanga Vinyasa is one such practice. The practical details of Ashtanga Yoga practice are to be found in Maha Yogi Vemana’s Yoga korunta. This approach was preserved and passed on by one of Modern India’s revered Yogi Shri T. Krishnamacharya. Ashtanga Yoga today is kept alive largely by the perseverance of Late Shri K. Pattabhi Jois and KPJAYI, Mysore and Shri. BNS Iyengar of the Parikala matta, Mysore.

     

    Ashtanga Yoga is called so because of its systematic engagement with the Body, Breath and Mind. It involves an age-old proven training methods for the three.

     

    Ashtanga Yoga has the following features that are strictly adhered to

     

      1. 1.Has 6 series divided into – Yoga Chikitsa, Nadishodhana and Sthira Baaga-A,B,C,D.

     

      1. 2. Each of these needs to be practiced with Vinyasa and Tristhana

     

      1. 3. Vinyasa – synchronised pre-set body movements with Breath, to get in, be in & get out of Asanas

     

      1. 4. Tristhana – The coordination and synchronising of Asana – Ujjayi – Dristi

     

      1. 5. The Asanas are always practiced in a predetermined sequence / order.

    Ashtanga Yoga online course

    Mon, Tue, Thu, Fri Aug 2nd – Oct 14th, 2022 10am to 12pm

     

    The fee is INR 14,500.

    The course is meant for those who may have had limited exposure to Ashtanga Vinyasa or may not have done Ashtanga Vinyasa at all.

     

    Week 1, 2 & 3 will be used to slowly build the practice with postures being introduced methodically.

    Weeks later will involve practice of the full series using modifications as required.

     

    PRACTICE: guided practice with emphasis on safe practice that pays attention to alignment and individualized modifications.

     

    What could be a take away for the student from the course :

     

    A clear understanding of the Ashtanga Vinyasa Primary series, the technique of Ujjayi breath,  guidelines for safe personal practice. It can also lead to some increase in strength and stamina (depending on the practice level )

     

    Who should do this course :

     

    – Any yoga practitioners with at least one year of consistent Hatha yoga practice.

    – Ashtanga Vinyasa practitioners who wish to refresh/ deepen their knowledge.

    – Experienced Ashtanga Vinyasa practitioners may also enjoy the course since it offers a guided practice . On few days their might be a self-practice if the teacher feels the students are ready for it.

     

    Who is not eligible :

    Please note: practitioners should not have any pre-existing health issues especially back, shoulder, wrist. The course will not have the bandwidth to address these kinds of issues.
